Keeping in touch:

This is the best I can do for a “blog” page for now! Would love to read your comments though. Meantime you could use ‘contacts’ to comment.

At the moment I am working to finish paintings from my growing ‘unfinished paintings’ pile. I am working on paintings from a selection of  exhibits in the local museum where I volunteer one day a month. I also want to follow up on ideas mapped out ages ago when working in Korea, of the brilliant Autumn leaves there.

24th October   Have taken time to finish my goal of 12 tiny cat paintings, last two now added to the gallery! So it is back to another goal, to do a set of paintings from the museum exhibits. Number two is well on the way.

2nd November   Half-way through the 3rd painting from the museum exhibits. It is, I think, going well so far!

Yet another attempt to finish ‘The Selfie’, still work to do on it!  Meantime have relaxed back into landscapes -loved the soft light of a new day after an especially robust storm one night so am trying to get the peace and promise of a new day emerging from the trail of destruction left by more stormy times. It is progressing well, I think.

31st December, 2023

Update ;   Nearly finished the beach scene but need to leave it for a bit and come back to it. I have started another painting I’ve wanted to do for a while now, of the grandstand at the local racecourse.  A certain lack of imagination has seen the racecourse closed, and chances are that this lovely old grandstand will be left to rot into the ground. I hope at least there will be a painting left of it.

7th February

..and 3 finished paintings added to ‘gallery’.  I still have 3 more yet to finish – The Selfie (still), The Grandstand (still) and Choppy Seas.

21st March

Busy preparing paintings for my shared ‘artist’s week’ in Dunedin, run by OAS (Otago Art Society). Means I am in there , 10am to 4pm for 7 days, with paintings up,  and easel and paints at the ready to demo and discuss. Have finished ‘Choppy Seas’ and also one of the Two Bays, though that one won’t be dry in time to go in.

2nd April

Back home and straight into the Sister Rocks, a painting I first did when I was about 12 years old, and still have that one, kept safely all these decades by my mother. Interesting to be doing it again now.

7th April

Thoroughly enjoyed the ‘Featured Artist’ week at the OAS. Huge number of visitors, lots of lovely compliments, sold some paintings (sad to see them go, sniff, sniff, but nice to think someone else will be looking at them and appreciating them), and so much talking. I did get a little bit more of the grandstand painting done, but not much!

15th June

It is too cold for much outdoor painting… working indoors entirely for the moment. I  have finished the ‘Karitane Pinnacles’ and it is now on show at the OAS 148th exhibition.

Have started and nearly finished another Karitane scene – I really do like that moment of approach to a beach!
